Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetic Foot CareAll of the physicians at Table Mountain Foot & Ankle are highly experienced in managing foot problems related to Diabetes. Persons afflicted with diabetes mellitus are prone to many foot problems, often because of 2 complications of diabetes: Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) and poor blood circulation (peripheral vascular disease). These conditions can cause significant problems to the feet. Peripheral neuropathy causes a loss of feeling in the feet, taking away the ability to feel pain or discomfort , so one may not detect an injury or irritation. Poor circulation in the feet reduces a person’s ability to heal. A tiny cut or scrape can more commonly result in an infection. For the reason Diabetes mellitus lowers the immune system making infections difficult to fight off.
